The Truth about the King David Hotel

The plan to attack the King David Hotel had been decided months in advance. After several delays the attack was finally carried out with the approval of the Jewish Resistance Movement. After the attack led to many casualties, the Jewish Resistance Movement informed the Etzel that it would not make any announcements regarding the attack, only to condemn it just a few days later. The loss of life was caused by Shaw’s refusal to evacuate the hotel, but the Jewish Resistance Movement allowed anti-Etzel propaganda to run rampant without any counter-narrative. An expert from the Jewish Resistance Movement then lied about the planned timing of the attack. The Etzel proposed that each side choose representatives that are known to not be sympathetic to the Etzel, to hold a trial between them to determine the facts, but the Jewish Resistance Movement refused this proposal. Now it is up to the people to judge.

A call to the American people during the revolt against the British in 1947. The British were given a mandate to prepare the land to be a homeland for the Jewish people but has spent thirty years cheating the Jews out of their homeland instead. The Etzel has long recognized the true aim of the British and vows not to stop fighting until the British are kicked out of the country. Americans can help by pressuring the US government to not let Britain get away with its crimes in Palestine, by boycotting British goods, by sending more ships to transport Jewish refugees to Palestine, and by donating money and goods to the fighters so they can have as much supplies and weapons as necessary. The Jewish people is determined to win its freedom, and has many Dov Gruners willing to fight and die for that freedom. The Jewish nation calls to America for help in attaining its freedom.

Defeatists, Be Contrite

Though many accusations about the inadvisability and even the immorality of the revolt against the British have been leveled, the Etzel contends that it is a just, moral, and effective struggle that will succeed. The Soviet Union has acknowledged the bankruptcy of British rule at the United Nations. The defeatists should go to the graves of the fallen, both armed and unarmed, as an act of contrition. The revolt will succeed in bringing about the change from slavery to freedom.

A call to action during the revolt against the British in 1947. The Etzel is revolting in order to bring justice and freedom to Eretz Israel. World War Two had cut the fighters of Eretz Israel off from the world and from the Jews of Europe. Without ‘British perfidy’ the slaughtered millions of Europe could have been saved by being brought to Palestine. The Etzel carried out dozens of attacks and built its arsenal by taking weapons from the British. Now that World War Two is over the Jews mourn their six million dead and resent that their homeland is still closed to the survivors. Now even the ‘appeasers’ who criticized the Etzel in the past are united against the rule of Britain. Britain itself has a massive, modern army in Palestine to suppress the revolt. Begin ends by pleading for help in manpower, supplies, and money to better carry out the revolt.

Facing the Threat of a Renewal of the Persecution from the School for Commanders and Soldiers

The Haganah threatened to again turn Etzel soldiers over to the British and to stop their military actions. The Etzel must therefore prepare for difficult days ahead. Even in the Yishuv leadership these threats against the Etzel are controversial, which will make them difficult to carry out. The Etzel will not stop the war against the British, even under the threats of the Haganah. The Etzel will defend itself, though it does not want a civil war. Etzel soldiers must exercise caution so as not to be attacked.
