He explains Herut’s four strategic principles: (1) do not wait until the enemy is ready; (2) right makes might; (3) liberate and remain; (4) grasp the opportune moment. Begin demands the Government to retreat their retreat.

Menachem Begin Warns Israel Against U.N. Police Force

Begin addresses the Knesset in response to the Government’s decision to not withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula until Egypt made peace. He is proud and praises David Ben-Gurion and his colleagues for their decision, even though international sources think poorly of the decision. He appeals to France, England, and the United States. Begin concludes that there are still parts of the Land of Israel that need to be liberated.

Menachem Begin’s Call for a Franco-Israel Alliance

During his visit to France, Begin addresses the French National Assembly. He first expresses his gratitude towards France’s support to Israel. Then he discusses one of Israel’s main threats: Nasser. He argues that Nasser isn’t just a threat for Israel, but also for Western Powers. Begin shifts to speak that France is responsible for preventing Nasser from ruling over Algeria. If France fails, then Israel will be completely surrounded by enemies. Begin also shares that the arms deal between Egypt and the Soviet Union that could easily lead to Egypt becoming a communist-military dictatorship. He reminds his audience of when the U.S. forcibly changed the regime in Guatemala to ultimately explain that Egypt is a serious threat to the Western Powers and action must be taken.

Menachem Begin Puts Forward 4-Point Basis for Peace Talks with Nasser

On the eve of his departure from Israel for France, Begin is interviewed by the United Press News Agency of America. In this interview Begin shares Herut’s 4-point basis for peace talks with Egypt’s leader Nasser. These points are: 1. Egyptian evacuation of Gaza Strip; 2. Ending of sea blockade; 3. Cessation of hostile acts; 4. Reparations. There is also discussion about Israel’s relationship with Western Powers.

Israel’s Last Chance

Begin shares his concern for Israel’s security as a result of decisions made over the years by the Government. The Government missed countless opportunities to strengthen Israel. Begin then argues that Israelis are delusional if they think war is preventable. This is because Israel’s enemies are determined to destroy Israel. To feel strong, Begin remarks that Israel needs to feel worldwide Jewry standing with Israel against its enemies. He then shifts to share that there is a shift in public opinion in Israel and if a war does not break out, Herut will encourage Israelis to demand new elections.
