Begin spoke at a symposium on religion in Tel Aviv. In his address, he focuses on explaining the terms: nation, State, religion, and nationality. He first speaks about how these ideas are interpreted differently in the East and West. Begin then explains that unlike other religions, for Judaism, faith and nationhood coexist. Next, he emphasizes the difference between separation of Church and State and separation of religion and State. He then refutes the claim that Communism emerged from Judaism. Lastly, he argues that there is nothing wrong in assisting faith, and then concludes that the nation of Israel needs to maintain faith in times a joy, and not just in times of despair.

The German Scientists – A Call for Action

Begin criticizes the Israeli government for not acting to deal with the growing threat of German scientists building missiles for the Egyptians. He cites this inaction as emboldening Germany to take greater steps in helping Egypt, which Begin says will destroy Israel if not checked.

Begin speaks about David Ben-Gurion’s tactics for elections to the Sixth Knesset. Ben-Gurion attempts to boost himself through the status of former Chiefs of Staff. Begin argues that these Chiefs of Staff are not so credible. He reflects on Etzel cooperating with the Haganah, and specifically references to Latrun and how Ben-Gurion lied about the lack of efforts of Etzel soldiers. Begin shifts to speak about Ben-Gurion offending former Chiefs of Staff, and concludes that those people can finally feel some of Begin’s and for Etzel members’ pain.
